Overview
Ittiam is a leading provider of media technology and systems for the in-flight entertainment (IFE) application. In fact, the current generation IFE solutions deployed in leading airlines and aircrafts have media processing and streaming technology sourced by Ittiam leveraging its Video Networking Systems (VNS) suite. These are one of the finest examples of effectiveness of Ittiam’s VNS methodology and quality of its technology.
Android is one of the most popular mobile operating systems on the planet and now Android based IFE systems are the latest in in-flight entertainment. As a leading technology vendor of IFE systems Ittiam is well versed with various requirements of delivering high end IFE systems. This coupled with more than two years of experience delivering systems on Android has enabled Ittiam to identify shortcomings of using the multimedia framework available in Android for IFE. Based on this learning, Ittiam has developed its VNS offering to serve as a suitable alternative to the default multimedia framework in Android. With VNS, Ittiam is in a position to play a major role in the adoption of Android in IFE

The application scenario for IFE is a combination of one or more of the following - in-seat or overhead displays for commercial aircraft with single or dual aisle configuration, high quality entertainment units for business jets, interoperability with legacy systems, wider variety of content both w.r.t. format and substance – movies to news channels for example. Each of these factors drive different system and technology requirements.
