Range of highly optimized codecs and media engines leverage TI’s TMS320DM647 and DM648 DSPs for video surveillance and infrastructure applications

Continuing its singular focus on digital signal processor (DSP)-based systems, Ittiam Systems today announced its readiness to deliver a complete range of video security and infrastructure optimized media technologies based on TMS320DM647 and TMS320DM648 – the latest DaVinci™ processors from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI). These solutions will offer multi-channel, high resolution and low latency features that are critical requirements of surveillance and infrastructure systems.

Ittiam’s offering includes the entire range of intellectual property needed by original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and original design manufacturers (ODM) in order to efficiently build high-quality end products. The optimized codecs and streaming media engine are tuned for specific end applications, including digital video recorders (DVRs), network cameras, network video recorders and video servers. The software offering is complemented by Ittiam’s expertise in designing hardware that can be leveraged for custom solutions.

“As a TI Authorized Software Provider and member of the DSP Third Party Network, Ittiam consistently leverages the newest TI technologies to deliver robust, cutting-edge solutions for OEMs and ODMs,” said Ram Sathappan, DM647/8 product marketing manager, Texas Instruments. “This new software offering from Ittiam, coupled with the functionality, peripherals and price of TI’s DM647 and DM648 DSPs provides video application developers with the tools and performance required to enhance the future of video surveillance and infrastructure applications.”

Ittiam’s codecs exploit the hardware accelerators on DaVinci processors to operate a very high number of channels and achieve a balanced trade-off between encoding quality and processing time. In addition, the solution includes a comprehensive media engine that stores or streams the encoded bit-streams from the multiple encoders with minimal overhead. Ittiam’s Video Security media system framework for the DaVinci processors has already been deployed to real-life application scenarios with multi-channel, high performance and low-latency video streaming. This offer answers the need for a broad range of video security applications and can also benefit medical and in-flight entertainment infrastructures.

“The availability of multiple video ports in the DM647 and DM648 devices is a critical feature that will significantly reduce board complexity and BOM,” said Sattam Dasgupta, vice president, media streaming business, Ittiam Systems. “The high speed DDR (double data rate) memory interface and availability of the Video and Imaging Coprocessor (VICP) will enable a high number of channels and advanced video quality at unprecedented price-points. We believe that the new DaVinci processors, combined with our application-hardened streaming system, will help customers break new grounds in security and infrastructure applications.”

Ittiam Systems has a significant investment and installed base in the infrastructure space which demands the highest performance technology and systems. The company plans to continue to aggressively adopt TMS320DM647 and TMS320DM648 and other devices based on DaVinci technology to offer an enhanced and complete portfolio of solutions with special emphasis on surveillance and security.
