Ittiam’s power-efficient VP9 and H.265 decoders optimized for ARM Mali™ and ARM® Cortex®-A processors showcased by ARM, Samsung System LSI and other partners at CES 2014

BANGALORE, India–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Ittiam Systems announces the availability of highly-optimized H.265 and VP9 software decoder solutions at CES 2014, balancing compute and energy efficiencies. Ittiam’s solutions will find their way to multiple demonstrations, both publicly on the show floor, and in customer suites, and will be showcased at several partner booths including ARM (NASDAQ: ARMH) and Samsung System LSI at CES 2014 at Las Vegas. By focusing on VP9 as well as H.265, Ittiam’s coverage becomes complete towards addressing the next-generation video compression technologies demanded by consumer devices such as set-top boxes, TVs, smartphones and tablets powered by ARM Cortex processors.

Ittiam’s H.265 and VP9 decoders have been designed to take advantage of the full capabilities of modern mobile SoCs based on ARM Cortex-A series of processors and ARM Mali T6xx GPU. This includes the media capabilities of the NEON™ SIMD engine, multi-threading and optimal usage of powerful GPUs like Mali-T600 through OpenCL APIs. By identifying operations that are highly parallel and offloading these to the GPU, Ittiam is able to deliver an implementation that significantly improves battery life during playback of high definition H.265 and VP9 video content.

Mukund Srinivasan, General Manager for the Consumer and Mobility Business at Ittiam, said, “The H.265 promise of up-to 50% reduction in streaming and storage/bandwidth is well recognized by the industry and we already see several key OEMs, Operators and service providers moving to H.265 to reap the benefits. With VP9’s emergence as the future video technology of choice for Google-backed YouTube and other services, Ittiam recognizes that many of our customers will need both H.265 and VP9 technologies in their future products. Our strong focus on video technologies and deep expertise in ARM and Mali GPU Compute architectures has enabled us to deliver power-efficient software decoders for both H.265 and VP9 on ARM Cortex microprocessor along with ARM Mali-T6xx GPUs.”

Ittiam’s demonstrations can be seen by visiting ARM booth, or Samsung System LSI (Private Showcase) at Encore Hotel in Las Vegas, amongst our partner demonstrations, at CES 2014.
