India’s Silicon Valley gets its first Wireless Cyber Spot using Wireless LAN Technology from Ittiam

February 05, 2005

Ittiam Systems today announced that Cafe Coffee Day, a leading Cafe chain, unveiled the first public wireless cyber spot in Bangalore using Ittiam’s Wireless LAN (Local Area Network) technology.

Visitors to the Lavelle Road outlet of Cafe Coffee Day can now wirelessly connect to the net, surf or exchange mails from any corner of the cafe, indoor or outdoor.

The cyber spot uses Ittiam’s 802.11b Wireless LAN (WLAN) Access Point prototype on one end and handhelds/palmtops/laptops with commercial off-the-shelf WLAN cards on the other.

“We are delighted to showcase our Wireless LAN solution in a real life application,” said Mr. Srini Rajam, CEO, Ittiam Systems. “It is a significant event in many respects – a technology demonstrator for Ittiam, an opportunity to field test a complex technology, a first of its kind event and last but not the least, a privilege of playing a critical role in it,” he added.

There are only a few of vendors worldwide who offer WLAN as an IP (Intellectual Property). A still smaller percentage of them actually have a demonstration board. Ittiam has both. Now they also have their technology-demonstrator in the field, working in real life.

“Ever since the first Internet-Cafe in the country was set up by Cafe Coffee Day in 1996, the chain has always been an early adopter of cutting-edge technology. We believe in bringing the best coffee experience to our young and tech-savvy customers. Ittiam’s wire-free technology is in line with the same ‘free-spirit’ that Cafe Coffee Day celebrates. And as we say often – a lot can happen over coffee!”, said Mr. Naresh Malhotra, Director, Cafe Coffee Day.
