Ittiam Systems Announces Multimedia and Communication Product Suite
March 27, 2002
Ittiam Systems Private Limited, today announced a comprehensive suite of digital signal processing solutions for the multimedia and communications markets.
Within a year of their launch, Ittiam has developed multiple products in all their target domains. This includes video-imaging and audio-speech products in multimedia in addition to wireless and wireline products in communication.
As part of its MuV product suite for the multimedia market, Ittiam has video and audio-speech compression and decompression components. These components are compliant with the MPEG 4 standard. MuV includes Simple Visual Profile, Advanced Simple Visual Profile and Streaming Video Profile running on multiple DSP platforms.
Another key product in the multimedia portfolio is a speech compression and decompression (codec) based on MPEG 4 HVXC that achieves a compression of 64 times. It is well suited for applications where bandwidth or storage is premium e.g. voice instant messaging, voice recorders.
Ittiam focuses on both wireless and wireline technologies in the communication space. In wireline, the target has been modems including the ITU compliant range of voice band modems.
According to Mr. Shantanu Jha, Vice President, Communications Business Unit, Ittiam Systems Pvt. Ltd, “The modems are targeted at embedded applications and can be plugged into larger systems, fixed or mobile. This is commensurate with our system strategy”.
Ittiam also announced its wireless products, which are IEEE 802.11 based wireless LAN. “We consciously chose WLAN over competing technologies since we see tremendous potential of this technology not only in offices and public hotspots but also in wireless home networking”, explained Mr. Jha.
Ittiam has developed solutions for both 802.11b standard which has a bandwidth of 11 Mbps and OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) based 802.11a that has a bandwidth of 54 Mbps. Ittiam’s WLAN offering includes 802.11 MAC and simulators for system designers. The entire software suite along with a reference board forms the WLAN solution from the company.
“The choice of our target areas within the wide DSP space was based on the opportunity for system level synergy between each domain”, said Srini Rajam, Chairman and CEO, Ittiam Systems Pvt. Ltd. “Communication and Multimedia are not only growing-markets individually, together they are fuelling the growth of integrated systems that need combined capabilities. There are very interesting and promising possibilities through innovative integration of the two”, he added. Ittiam is actively working on forward looking systems that leverage its competency across communications and multimedia. The company aims at taking them to the market by the end of 2002.
